Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Future Power Grid Initiative (FPGI) applies distinctive capabilities in power systems, data intensive computing, advanced computing, and visual analytics to deliver next-generation solutions for grid operation and planning.

FPGI's core product, which continues in development at PNNL through fiscal year 2015, is GridOPTICS™ – or Grid Operation and Planning Technology Integrated Capabilities Suite. Tools in this suite are designed to securely collect and manage data in real time, use data to drive modeling and simulation, and convert large volumes of data to actionable information. The tools will show and analyze grid performance at an unprecedented speed, scale, and resolution and will support operational and policy decision-making for the grid of the future.

FPGI also provides national leadership toward the establishment of a community of grid-related organizations to steward and advance open-source GridOPTICS™ tools, as well as similar resources created by other entities.
